by Caroline on June 16, 2010

German defender Philipp Lahm has been considered one of the top defenders in the world since his performance in the 2006 World Cup. His resume holds many coveted titles, including 2008 FIFA team of the year.  Although Lahm is on the short side at 5’ 7”, he more than makes up for his height with his quick pace and ball handling abilities and is the most consistent player on the young German squad. Not only does Lahm hold Germany’s backline, but often contributes to the teams attack. Lahm was the only player for Germany to not leave the field during the 2010 World Cup qualifying matches. He is currently the youngest German Captain in history at the age of 26, stepping in for injured Michael Ballack. Lahm is known for being reserved and modest and will lead his team by demonstrating the benefits of hard work and heart.  Not only does Lahm have an astonishing soccer career, but he is parts of various campaigns for charity.  Lahm’s current club team is Bayern Munich.

Lahm led his team to victory in their first 2010 World Cup match against Australia In group play Germany beat Australia 4 to nil, if favored to beat Serbia, and plays Ghana in their last group match in which they are also favored to come on out top.
